PLAYER OF THE SEASON 2007/08
At tonight's Big Red Ball, held at the Holiday Inn Brentford Lock, central defender Matt Heywood was named as Supporters Player Of The Season 2007/08.
Matt was an emphatic winner, and his name now joins the names of recent winners Jo Kuffour, Michael Turner and Sam Sodje on the famous trophy which was first lifted by Bob Booker at the end of the 1982/83 season.
Matt, who is currently in contract negotiations with the Club, made 30 league starts this season, scoring one goal, a header in the 3-1 over Accrington Stanley at Griffin Park in February.
The 300 strong crowd at the event, who had earlier been introduced to new signings Moses Ademola and Sam Wood, gave Matt a rapturous reception as he received the award from Bees manager Andy Scott.
The Big Red Ball is proving to be a huge success, with auction items including a 1966 World Cup montage, a signed England Shirt, and a training day with Andy and Bully already raising major funds for the Club.
Those present have also been treated to fantastic close-up magic from acclaimed magicians Clive Hyams and Michael Paul, as well as had caricatures of themselves drawn by legendary cartoonist John Anscomb.
The event continues into the night with more fantastic auction prizes (including the chance to be in the Brentford Squad next season), and superb stand-up comedy from Jongleurs regular Phil Butler.
