A late Calvin Andrews goal denied Brentford a shock FA Cup win against Luton Town as The Hatters earned a replay with a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road.

Charlie Ide's first goal of the season looked set to give the League Two Bees a win against their League One hosts but substitute Andrews scrambled home goal from a corner with a little over ten minutes remaining to get a second bite of the cherry.

Andrews was brought into the game inside the first five minutes when experienced striker Paul Furlong had to be withdrawn and that served to provide a further boost to the visitors, who were already on top.

Adrian Pettigrew headed wide early on and Sammy Moore looped another effort into the arms of Luton goalkeeper Dean Brill.

Ide had a shot deflected straight at Brill and Ricky Shakes fired across the face of goal after nice set up play by Lee Thorpe and Glenn Poole.

Luton's first sight of goal came when David Edwards fired wide and minutes later they had a better chance when David Bell reacted quickest as a loose ball dropped inside the Brentford penalty area, he sidestepped two challenges and forced a fine low save from Simon Brown with a drilled shot.

But with 20 minutes played Brentford took the lead their early endeavour deserved, Thorpe rose highest to nod a Poole cross down and Ide swivelled and lifted a left footed shot over Brill and into the corner.

The hosts hit back and Edwards should have equalised when he found himself clear eight yards out, but with only Brown to beat he fired wide and Brentford could have made him pay.

It took a fine Chris Coyne block to deny Thorpe as he raced onto a Poole pass and the Brentford striker was unable to find a team mate when he rounded Brill but was forced wide soon after.

The Bees knew they would be under the cosh in the second half but they managed to restrict the League One side to mainly long-range efforts.

Brown saved from Stephen Robinson and denied Darren Currie from a curled free kick while substitute Drew Talbot flicked a Bell cross wide.

And Brentford could have put the game to bed; a trademark Poole 35-yard effort flew narrowly wide and later in the half Brill saved high to his left from another effort by the former Grays Athletic man.

The home side were beginning to pile on the pressure but Brentford were looking confident, Talbot had a weak shot saved and then headed tamely wide.

And Brentford continued to pose problems at the other end, Moore fired across the face of goal after a nice side step on the edge of the box and Shakes did likewise when he beat Brill to a Ben Starosta pass and tried to cut the ball back from a tight angle.

Just when it seemed Luton were running out of ideas they got themselves level, a corner was half cleared and Currie found too much space on the right, his low cross bobbled about before Andrews poked it over the line.

That served to boost the hosts and they pushed for a winner, Brown saved well from Bell and Alan Goodall before denying Talbot and preventing a Currie free kick settling the tie.

And Talbot almost denied Brentford the replay they deserved when he attempted to convert a Coyne nod down with an overhead kick, but missed completely.

The hosts came no closer to getting the winner and Brentford will bring the League One side back to Griffin Park in just over a week for the deciding chapter in this First Round tie.
